Overview
Process and structural engineering for the expansion of a regional water reclamation plant.
The challenge
The plant had to keep treating flows during construction, and new tanks sat on a high water table that made buoyancy and differential settlement real risks.
Our approach
We phased the works so no basin ever went fully offline, designed the reactor tanks as jointed reinforced-concrete cells on a piled raft, and added permanent under-drainage to relieve hydrostatic uplift.
The outcome
Capacity rose by 40% with no discharge exceedances during the build. The uplift relief system cut the raft thickness and saved roughly 900 tonnes of concrete.
