Overview
Full structural design and construction engineering for a cable-stayed crossing over a working shipping channel.
The challenge
The channel had to stay open to marine traffic throughout construction, and the soft estuarine subsoil could not support conventional falsework in midstream.
Our approach
We designed a single-pylon cable-stayed span with a segmental balanced-cantilever erection sequence, eliminating in-channel falsework and staging every segment from land. Foundations landed on driven steel piles socketed into bedrock.
The outcome
The bridge opened three weeks ahead of programme with zero channel closures. Independent load testing confirmed deflections within 4% of the analytical model.
